Cameron Cruz feels like she'll never recover when her lover, Diego, is killed during an undercover assignment—leaving her pregnant with his unborn son.
Back from maternity leave, Cameron is ready to rejoin her Special Ops team and work to shut down a human trafficking operation. But when she witnesses a fellow officer shot, she can hardly believe her eyes. Because the shooter is someone she trusted. Someone she loved. Someone she thought was dead…
Diego.
The evidence against him mounts. Evidence that he’s guilty of kidnapping and imprisoning the very people he’s sworn to protect and serve. Guilty of betraying their teammates, and the entire police department. Guilty of betraying her.
Despite what she's seen, Cameron's love for Diego is as alive as he is. She believes he's innocent—she just has to prove it. But the closer she gets to the traffickers, the closer her investigation comes to her department’s front door.
Suddenly, she must question who she can trust.
And who is willing to risk it all to send her—and the truth—to the grave.

Girard is a good read on a day when you just want to relax. Her writing skill is excellent and her character development remarkable. Some of her works weave multiple stories together (the past in italics; the present in regular print). I have seldom read through the chapters in italics because the gruesome details of the past upset me. You can read the whole book withoug reading the chapters in italics and never miss a beat but you know that you can go back to one of those chapters if you are curious about some particular detail. I have always given most of my leisure-reading books 4 stars instead of 5 because nobody ever comes up with stunning endings but Girard's endings are satisfying.Product details

Dark Passage The Rookie Club Book 3 edition by Danielle Girard Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Excellent writer! Enjoyed every minute of it!
I enjoyed all of Danielle Girard's books very much. They really kept my interest.
Exciting story of 2 Special Ops team members in the SFPD. Cameron Diaz becomes pregnant while her significant other goes under cover with the INS chasing people who are bringing in young women for the skin trade. So many bad guys it is hard to know who to trust.
Another great story in this series that kept me guessing until the very end. There were twist and turns throughout the entire story. This book centers on Cameron Cruz, a sharpshooter who finds herself in the middle of a human trafficking case that involves department personnel and Cameron's not sure who she can trust. She turns to The Rookie Club members and finds allies in Hailey Waytt (from book 2) and Mei Ling (up coming book4). This one kept up way too late on more than one night.
I was searching for another series of mystery books to read and stumbled across Danielle Girard whom I had not yet read. I think that Dark Passage is the best of the Rookie Club series so far with unsuspecting involvement of characters in murder, prostitution, and a network of gambling that has turned into entrapment. I'm now on book #4. The author develops her characters with every episode although not all of the characters are portrayed in every one. These stories are full of twists and turns. Very enjoyable.
Human trafficking, murder, blackmail, kidnapping, rape - all the crimes committed in this action packed thriller. Cameron was a single mother. Her son's father had died while working undercover without knowing he was a father. Baby Nate did not sleep well so Cameron frequently drove around until he fell asleep. On one such night she parked her car so she could feed Nate. She saw a ghost it was Diago Ramirez, Nate's father. He shot another police officer.
Cameron was in shock and her troubles were just beginning. She did not know who to trust so she asked for help from two other members of the Rookie Club. Diago managed to give her a thumb drive with information that could bring down the the entire operation. She just needed to live long enough to use it.
This book is packed with action and suspense. I could not read fast enough.
Pretty decent crime mystery. I'd give it 4 stars for the story idea but the author really needs a better editor. It's sometimes hard to follow what's goung on. Odd characters are given quite a long description but you never hear about them again. Some word usage is weird. Like when a character goes out the foyer, down the elevator and walks into the foyer. Wait, what? Isn't one of those foyers a lobby? It made me reread the paragraph.
The female characters are interesting, but the male charcters have no depth. There isn't a lot of character or relationship development. I do Iike that the Rookie Club characters each get their own book. I've read 3 of this author's books, and will read the next. I just read them slowly and don't question the grammar errs.
