An exciting and fun read, I couldn't put this book down! While not a complex storyline, the story moved at the right pace and the characters were developed no more than what was needed; however, I did find myself hoping for a little more on a few of the characters. The story itself was an interesting concept and kept me engaged.Overall, this was a good read and one I'm glad I picked up. I am very much looking forward to reading the next book in the series; and I'm hoping the author develops some of the supporting cast a little bit more.

There were many unexpected creatures and happenings. I really enjoyed the characters and felt transported to a fascinating new world.
I'm going to be honest. I know the author and I consider him one of my great friends. I will continue to be honest. I'm a wannabe writer as well, and I'm a pretty jealous guy. I read Sam's first book and encouraged him to publish, then looked on with complete envy when it was a success. I resisted reading the rest of his books because of this jealousy. (To be honest, I find Sam to be an awesome guy, so part of me was also worried I wouldn't like them and then I'd have to tell him. I'm not complete scum.) Either way, I finally read one of his books. This one, in fact. I'm back to being jealous. Not of his success, but of his skill. Sam put together a great tale of brotherly love, danger, standing up for what you believe in and just about everything that makes a man want to strap on a sword and march off to fight the darkness. The storyline was fun, the writing well paced, characters interesting... Darn, I wish I could write this well. Final assessment Buy and read this book. I bought it for me and my kids are reading it next. It's good stuff.
Liked the book very much! Characters were amusing. Wished Sami and Bear lived. Hopefully there will be more in this story line.
I liked this book much more than I thought I would. I wasn't convinced by the title but gave it a chance anyway, nice little surprise. I liked the main characters and the supporting characters were interesting, the plot was a bit predictable but the story flowed nicely and didn't feel forced. I like that it is just one book, with an ending for once. It is a "light" book to read on a rainy afternoon.
Two brothers fight trolls. Magic bow and arrows. Behemoth snakes and friends. A bad king troll and bigger troll king.
I read this to my son and he loved it. The bond between brothers and the peril of trolls and swamp snakes mixed with a little dab of magic, are exactly what a boy loves. I don't usually read this genre but it kept my interest up enough to not be miserable while reading to my boy. The beginning was a little thick but once we got into the story we were hooked.
Sam is quickly becoming an author I look forward to reading. I agree that this is a quick story. There is not much character development. That is okay though. It is still a good book.
